NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The Tabor College Men's Basketball team traveled down the road to North Newton to take on the Bluejays' biggest rival, the Threshers of Bethel College. This game has been much anticipated and was certainly exciting.
The first half was everything a basketball fan could hope for, with both teams playing relatively even and trading buckets for the entirety of the half. The Threshers would go into the halftime break with a five point lead, which would be either team's largest lead of the half.
Thatcher McClure led the Bluejays in scoring with eight points, while
Kalep Crane and
Kenyon Holcombe both had seven. Tabor outrebounded the Threshers in the first half, 16-11.
Bethel got out to an early nine point lead in the second half, but the Bluejays would work to chip away at the lead and eventually get a lead of their own. The Bluejays would build a four point lead, but that would be their biggest lead of the half. The Threshers would go on to win 81-73. Crane had 20 points to lead the Bluejays in scoring, while
Jack Voth had 16.
Tabor College Head Men's Basketball Coach
Matt Warren had this to say after the game, "Really tough one for our team last night. They have battled and battled but we just keep coming up short. Like I said in the pregame article, the physicality of the game was the overwhelming factor. I thought our guys did a really good job of handling it but it was physical. It was a game of runs and they made the last one. We are finding out what this group of new, old, and young guys is made of."
The Bluejay men will have a short turnaround and will be back on the road, this time for an exhibition game in Edmond, Oklahoma at NCAA DII University of Central Oklahoma. The game will tip off at 7:00 pm and there will be a free
radio broadcast and live stats will be available
