HILLSBORO, Kan. The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced the recipients for its Champions of Character Awards for Women's Cross Country.
The Tabor College Women's Cross Country team has been named as the KCAC Team of Character for their efforts outside of competition this season. The Lady Bluejays have taken part in different service projects, and other community service activities during this season. Some of these activities include helping with the youth groups at local churches, working multiple volleyball and soccer matches on campus, and one of the team members,
Danielle Allison, serves on the KCAC Student Athlete Leadership Team.
Tabor College Head Cross Country Coach Rylan Hincher had this to say about his team winning this prestigious award, "It is great to see both our men and women receive the Champions of Character Team award for the KCAC. I have said it from the beginning of fall camp, this group is awesome to work with. Even with so many new faces to the program this fall, our team culture not only maintained but got even better. We have so many high character student-athletes in our program and it is evident daily. As a program we try to model what it looks like for it to be bigger than ourselves. This fall we have been walking through Philippians, as a team with Mike Barter who has helped us focus on Jesus first, Others second, Yourself third and we are trying to practice that as a team of many very talented athletes. This group makes my job fun!"
Kaylee DeAngelis was named as the KCAC Champions of Character Student-Athlete for Tabor College. Coach Hincher had this to say about DeAngelis receiving this award, "Kaylee has been awesome to coach since arriving on campus. She works extremely hard, cares deeply for her teammates and brings such a fun personality to our team. Even when things were not going exactly how we thought, Kaylee kept working and never stopped encouraging her teammates. Our team is better because Kaylee DeAngelis is on it!"
Dr. Karol Hunt, the KCAC Champions of Character Coordinator and Tabor College Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Leader, commented on the Bluejay men winning this prestigious award, "It is a real honor for the Women's Cross Country team to receive the prestigious Champions of Character Team award. The award is based on the vote of the Cross Country coaches. It is positive that other teams recognize the high character that the Tabor coaches and runners display not only during competition but in their personal lives."
