Nathan Howard will begin his second year in the Tabor College Sports Information Department this fall and his first year as the Sports Information Director. In his first year, Howard served as the “Voice of the Bluejays”, announcing home games on the public address system for Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Baseball, and Softball, as well as serving as the play-by-play announcer for Bluejay Softball. In addition to his announcing roles with the Bluejays, Howard served as a public address announcer for Hillsboro High School for their Trojan Classic basketball tournament. Howard also served in an interim role for a month before a new Sports Information Director was hired last fall, taking care of helping set up the new athletic website along with several other responsibilities needed to kick off the fall athletic season, as well as helping contribute with the Fall Media Guide.
As part of his role, Howard has written almost 200 press releases for taborbluejays.com, writing game previews and recaps, season previews and recaps, as well as other newsworthy pieces. Howard has designed program handouts and media game notes for several sports throughout the past year, most notably Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.
Howard has worked several postseason tournaments, including the 2022, 2023, and 2024 NAIA Men’s Basketball Championships, the 2024 NJCAA Division I Soccer Championships, the 2024 KCAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship Monday, and the 2024 KCAC Baseball and Softball Championships. During the 2022 NAIA Men’s Basketball Championship, Howard served as a Red Hat, coordinating media timeouts with game officials. During the 2023 and 2024 NAIA Men’s Basketball Championships, Howard wrote game recaps for the NAIA Director of Communications and the NAIA official website, taking notes throughout each game and doing research on each team and previous tournaments, looking for little-known facts and nuggets, as well as trends across the history of the tournament. Howard served as an official scorer and statistician for the 2024 NJCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships in Wichita, running the scoreboard and keeping the official live stats for one of the fields. During the 2024 KCAC Championship Monday, Howard ran the social media feeds for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and conducted post-game interviews with the winning coaches and a group of their players. Most recently, Howard served as the main play-by-play broadcast announcer for the 2024 KCAC Baseball Championships, calling all 15 games of the tournament as well as serving as a color analyst for three games of the 2024 KCAC Softball Championships and serving as the public address announcer for one of those games.
Nathan is a 2023 graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan., where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management with a Minor in Coaching. Howard served as a student-assistant Men’s Basketball coach under NAIA Hall of Famer and current Bethel College Head Women’s Basketball Head Coach Rocky Lamar during his junior year and served as Coordinator of Basketball Operations under current MNU Head Coach, Adam Hepker during his senior year. Howard started out at Johnson County Community College as Head Men’s Basketball manager under NJCAA Hall of Famer Mike Jeffers for Jeffers’ final season before retiring at the end of the 2019-20 season. Howard was retained by current Cavalier Head Coach, Rand Chappell and served one year under Chappell and earned his Associates’ degree before transferring to MNU.
Howard graduated from Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kan. in 2019 and ran Cross Country for Coaches Anthony Bozarth and Glenn Daniels for all four years and played rugby for the Olathe High School Rugby Gents, coached by Jay Allen for one season. While at Olathe East, Howard completed the Olathe Leadership 21st Century Academy program and served an internship in the Youth Ministry Office at Christ Lutheran Church. In addition to his internship, Howard also served as assistant Boys’ Basketball coach and assistant Track and Field coach at Christ Lutheran School for two years.
Howard is currently pursuing his Master’s of Business Administration in Sports Management and Leadership from Tabor College and resides in Hillsboro.
