BLUEJAY WOMEN SET SIGHTS ON EARNING SECOND WIN IN A ROW AS BETHANY COMES TO TOWN ON WEDNESDAY

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Wednesday marks what should be yet another competitive battle in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), as Head Coach Shawn Reed and the Lady Bluejays host Bethany in a mid-week clash. The contest marks the first meeting of the 2025-26 season between the two programs.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Earned a thrilling overtime win over Kansas Wesleyan on January 3rd, 81-74
  • Tayton Smith recorded a career-high 32-point outing in the win, shooting an impressive 81.3% (13-16) from the field, and rounding out her performance with 13 total rebounds for a double-double
  • Smith also had a monster defensive night, recording four blocks and snagging four steals
  • Lily Veer finished with 17 points in the win, her eighth venture into double figures of the season
  • Tabor shot 45.9% (28-61) from the field, including 64.29% (9-14) in the 2nd quarter and 62.5% (5-8) in overtime
  • The Bluejays recorded 32 points in the paint and 13 points off turnovers
 
LAST TIME AGAINST THE SWEDES
  • Last met on February 27th, 2025, in Hillsboro in the KCAC Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals
  • Tabor earned the win and ended Bethany's season, 60-47
  • Out of the returners, Lillie Veer contributed 10 points for Tabor, while Janae Black-Harmon led Bethany with 21 points off the bench
 
SCOUTING THE SWEDES
  • 7-6 overall record, 5-3 record in KCAC play
  • Started the New Year with a 64-53 win at home over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday
  • Colbi Rignell currently leads Bethany in scoring with 13.2 points per game, while Becca Unruh and Janae Black-Harmon both average 12.8 points per game
  • Rignell led the scoring efforts in Saturday's win with 16 points, while Black-Harmon hauled in 16 rebounds and Lilyan Walden dished out six assists
 
SERIES HISTORY VS BETHANY
  • Dates back to 1964, with 117 total meetings
  • The Bluejays won the first meeting in 1964, 36-22
  • Tabor currently leads the series, 63-54
  • The Bluejays' largest margin of victory came in 1977 with a 50-point win (75-25) over the Swedes
  • Tabor has won the last two meetings between the two teams, winning two out of three meetings during the 2024-25 campaign
  • TC owned a 15-game win streak from 2010-2017
  • Over the last 10 meetings (since January 23rd, 2021), Tabor has won seven of those, while Bethany has won three
 
OUTLOOK
  • Wednesday should turn out to be a solid opportunity for the Lady Bluejays, especially with some extra momentum from Saturday's win. Tayton Smith and Lillie Veer will look to lead the way, while Landry O'Brien's return to the lineup brings added depth.
