WICHITA, Kan. - Tabor College athletes delivered standout performances at the Concordia University, Nebraska Twilight Meet, highlighted by event wins, a school record, and a strong finish to a stellar career.
Vance Shewey soared to victory in the men's high jump, clearing 2.15 meters to take first place and continue building momentum ahead of the upcoming national championships. His performance positions him as a top contender as he eyes a national title.
On the track, Sonya Zimmerman once again etched her name into the Tabor record books, winning the open 800 meters in 2:16.57. The performance marks the third time this season Zimmerman has broken the school record in the event, shaving more than half a second off her previous best of 2:17.10.
Zimmerman also placed third in the open 1500 meters with a time of 5:13.87, capping off a historic career for the senior standout. Her teammate Julianna Maxfield took first place in that race, crossing the line in 4:53.87.
"Sonya Zimmerman built upon her success in the 800 at our last chance meet once again today," said Coach Jonathan Wood "Re-setting the school record for the third time this season, improving her time by .53 seconds. It was an exciting day for our Bluejays with all three athletes winning an event at a high-level meet. It was bittersweet for our Lady Bluejays, as this was the last race Sonya and Julianna will ever run together, and the last race of Sonya's stellar career for Tabor. Vance Shewey builds up his confidence one more time before we head to Nationals in hopes of becoming a National Champion."
The Concordia Twilight Meet served as a strong final test for the Bluejays before the national stage, offering both celebration and reflection as a remarkable chapter comes to a close for key senior leaders.
The NAIA Track and Field National Championships are set for May 21–23 in Marion, Indiana. Additional meet details and coverage will be shared as the event approaches.
