JOPLIN, Mo. – A one-day weather delay proved to be no problem for Bluejay baseball as they opened the 2025 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Baseball Championships on Thursday afternoon. The Bluejays finished the regular season tied with York University for the fourth-place spot heading into the tournament, but a series win for the Panthers earlier in the season gave them the seed advantage over Tabor. The Bluejays entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed, taking on the Panthers and potentially playing the role of underdogs.
Tabor responded by starting the tournament off with a bang, getting on the scoreboard first and keeping the Panthers off through the first four innings. The first runs came across the plate in the top of the 1
st inning, as
Juan Rosa Gonzalez reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, sending
Isaiah Cohens in to score.
Micah Dvorak added the second run of the day for TC, hitting an RBI single to the third basemen and scoring
Aidan Martinez.
In the 4
th inning, Tabor added three additional runs, extending their lead to five and pushing the score to 5-0.
Chris Sieg started things off with his first RBI of the day, singling to left field. The moment that might prove to be the highlight of the game came in the 7
th and final inning however, as
Aidan Martinez blasted a two-run homer to right field, also scoring
Cody Moore and giving the Bluejays the 14-2 lead. The Panthers had no answer for the Bluejays potent offense as they fell in their first game of the tournament.
Evan Williams threw a complete game on the hill for Tabor, throwing 94 pitches and sitting down eight batters through seven total innings.
Marcelo Aguirre led the way on offense, recording three RBIs, while
Aidan Martinez and
Chris Sieg each recorded two of their own. Martinez also recorded the only homerun on the day for the Bluejays.
With the win, the Bluejays improve to 30-19 overall and advance to face the No. 1 overall seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles at 6:45pm on Friday.
