BLUEJAYS DROP GAME ONE AGAINST COYOTES

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Bluejays returned to action on Saturday afternoon to take on Kansas Wesleyan in the first of a three-game series between the two teams. Both teams were coming off solid mid-week wins, with the Bluejays earning a 25-12 win over the University of Saint Mary on Tuesday, and the Coyotes earning a 19-2 win over Sterling College.

Game One: L, 11-8

Tyler Favretto put the Coyotes on the board early in the top of the 1st inning with a two-run homer.

Tabor would not find answer until the bottom of the 2nd, as Aidan Martinez and Garryn Plummer each recorded RBI singles.

Kansas Wesleyan sent six additional runs across the plate between the 3rd and 5th innings, taking an 8-2 lead.

Jared Mack gave the Bluejays new life in the bottom of the 5th with a huge Grand Slam, sending Micah Dvorak, Cody Moore, and Marcelo Aguirre to cross home and score, bringing TC within two, 8-6.

Three more KWU runs scored in the 6th and 7th innings, stretching the Coyotes lead to 11-6.

Mack and Martinez recorded RBIs in the bottom of the 7th, but that would not be enough, as Kansas Wesleyan took Game One, 11-8.

Evan Williams was charged with the loss on the mound, throwing 111 pitches through five full innings, striking out eight batters in the process.

Jared Mack led the team on offense with four RBIs on the day, coming from his Grand Slam in the bottom of the 5th.

With the loss, the Bluejays fell to 23-15 on the season and 15-11 in KCAC play.
