BLUEJAYS FALL TO OKWU IN SLUGFEST

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Bluejay Baseball found themselves with a quick turnaround after sweeping the season series against Bethany College as Oklahoma Wesleyan University made their way to town for a quick 9 inning game on Monday afternoon. Okay, that's not necessarily true, Monday's game was anything but quick, running four hours in total.

Game One: L, 28-19

Everyone with any connection to either of these teams, including longtime fans knew that this game was going to be a slugfest, it always is, especially when the Eagles come to Hillsboro.

That was evident immediately beginning with the top of the 1st inning, as Oklahoma Wesleyan quickly took a 5-0 lead by way of two two-run homers and one solo homer.

The Bluejays answered right back with a big two-run homer by Garryn Plummer, followed up by a solo homer from Cody Moore to not only put the Bluejays within two runs, but also breaking the career homerun record set in 2022 by Kelsey Weems.

OKWU continued the game of homerun ping pong with another two-run homer in the 2nd inning, giving the Eagles a 7-3 lead.

The bottom of the 3rd inning proved to be a huge inning for Tabor as 11 runs crossed the plate by way of six homers. Two of those homers are to the credit of Moore, while Micah Dvorak accounted for a two-run bomb, Sergio Gutierrez launched a solo homer, and Marcelo Aguirre drove in a three-run bomb.

The Eagles followed with 10 runs in the top of the 4th, pulling ahead and taking a 17-14 lead.

Aguirre hit another homer in the bottom of the inning, bringing the Bluejays back within two runs.

The top of the 6th saw Oklahoma Wesleyan push their lead back out to five with a three-run homer.

Plummer helped TC pull back within two once again, smashing a three-run bomb and bringing the score to 20-18.

Oklahoma Wesleyan scored seven more runs in the top of the 7th and one in the 8th, while Mikey Acosta provided one more homer for the Bluejays in the bottom of the 7th.

Between the two teams there were an astounding 21 total homeruns hit, making for an incredibly high scoring contest.

Zaid Flynn started on the mound for the Bluejays, but the loss would be charged to Garrick Levesque. Xander Roberts, Brayden Berens, Zachary Garner, and Carson Hein also pitched in relief.

Garryn Plummer led the way on offense for the Bluejays, recording five RBIs, while Cody Moore and Marcelo Aguirre recorded four RBIs each.

With the loss, the Bluejays drop to 12-8 on the season and 7-5 in KCAC play.
