HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Tabor College women's tennis team is set to begin its 2024-25 spring season under first time head coach Jeremy Nelson, with a determined group of athletes looking to make an impact in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
"The girls work hard and buy in," Nelson said. "It makes my job more fun."
The Bluejays will feature a mix of experience and fresh talent this season. Senior Allison Johnson, a dual-sport athlete competing in cross country and track and field, will be playing collegiate tennis for the first time. Junior Sheridan Bussard joins the team from the soccer program, bringing her athleticism to the court.
The roster also includes junior Fiorella Villa. Additionally, three freshmen—Cassidy Boyer, Piper Foegen, and Margaret Bates—will be making their collegiate tennis debuts. Like Bussard, all three freshmen come to the team from soccer and will look to translate their skills onto the tennis court.
Despite being picked 12th out of 13 teams in the KCAC preseason poll, Nelson remains optimistic about the season ahead.
"I think we will surprise some people," Nelson said. "This team is ready to compete."
The Bluejays will open their season on Feb. 16 against Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. With a hardworking squad and a coach who believes in their potential, Tabor College is eager to prove itself in conference play.
