HILLSBORO, Kan. – Bluejay Reserve Basketball returned to action Monday evening as they welcomed the Reserve squad from Hesston College to Tabor College Gymnasium. The Bluejays entered the contest coming off a heartbreaking loss on the road at Bethany College a week ago, while the Larks came into the evening hoping to erase their own heartbreaking loss in overtime to Southwestern College from memory.
At the halftime break, TC lead their foes from just down the road, 39-34.
Hayden Lucas led the way in scoring through one half of play with 10 points, while
Semaj James followed with six,
Gabe Kampling and
Danzel Mendez had five,
Brett Buckingham and
Brody Young had three apiece, and Jarret Loftin and
Tai'Sean Williams added two points each.
The second half saw Tabor pull away, added 44 more points to their total from the first half while holding Hesston to 32 points in the half.
James finished with 16 total points to lead the team in scoring, while Lucas and Kampling followed with 15 and 14 respectively. Mendez finished with nine, Buckingham added eight, Ranson added seven, Young and Williams contributed six, and Loftin finished with two.
Hesston's Ja'Ron Powell led the Larks in scoring with 19.
"I'm really proud of the way the team battled for 40 minutes", remarked a very pleased Reserve Head Coach
Ethan Gager. "Tonight was truly a team effort, and I was glad we came prepared. Now we need to continue to stick with it and get ready for our next opportunity against McPherson now."
With the win, the Bluejays improve to 5-6 on the season as they prepare to head to face Highway 56 rival McPherson College on Wednesday in their return to KCAC action.
