McPHERSON, Kan. – After last weekend's impressive showing against No. 25 Hastings, the Lady Bluejays returned to their home state, determined to begin conference play on a high note. Last night, Tabor traveled just down the road to McPherson, aiming for another victory that would mark their seventh consecutive positive outcome against the Bulldogs.
The Bluejays quickly gained the upper hand, with
Raegan King netting a goal within the first ten minutes of the half, assisted by
April Ochoa.
Taylor Nye was no stranger to the Bulldogs either, taking two shots early in the game and narrowly missing both attempts.
Jami Dooley also fired a shot, but McPherson's goalkeeper was able to make the save. Next, it was Ochoa's turn, scoring another goal for TC at the 24-minute mark and putting her team up by two.
Following Ochoa's goal, several other Bluejays took their chance at scoring, including
Kayley Hanna,
Torrance Gonzales, and
Raegan King for a second and third attempt.
Neve Mulrooney didn't get much action during the first half, with her defense holding McPherson to zero shots on goal. King's third shot of the match was good for another Tabor goal, leading TC into halftime with a lead of 3-0.
Alia Hirschi,
Jami Dooley,
April Ochoa, and
Jasmin Ventura each came into the second half ready to extend the lead against McPherson, all taking shots at the goal but coming up unsuccessful. It wasn't until the 62-minute mark that the Bulldogs took their first shot, which was saved by Mulrooney. King proved that she was not done yet, scoring yet another goal on a penalty kick and completing her hat trick. Hanna put the Bluejays up 5-0 with the help of Dooley, placing McPherson too far out of reach. The Bulldogs attempted two more shots nearing the end of the match, but Mulrooney left them empty-handed as it concluded.
An exceptional performance from Tabor in their conference opener leads the Lady Bluejays to 1-0 in conference play and 2-2-2 overall this season. This Saturday at 5 p.m., the Bluejays will take on the Friends Falcons here in Hillsboro.
