McPHERSON, Kan. – Coming off a devastating loss against Hastings last weekend, the Bluejay men sought to open conference play with an exciting matchup against McPherson on Wednesday. The Bulldogs gained possession from the get-go, taking a shot that was saved by
Alejandro Honrado with just a minute of time taken off the clock.
Both teams went back and forth at the goal, with
Albin Gonzalez and
Andre Trigo both taking shots for Tabor but coming up empty-handed. The Bulldogs retaliated with a goal scored at the 26-minute mark, and the Bluejays would set out to even the score. Soon after,
Molelwa Abendelwa and Martin Marinakis both attempted, but came up unsuccessful. With three minutes left to go in the first half, McPherson extended their lead, and the first half wrapped up with a score of 0-2.
The second half would be a challenge for Tabor, but the Bluejays came onto the turf looking to make a comeback. Almost immediately,
Andre Trigo put the Bluejays on the board to narrow the gap with a score of 1-2.
Daniel Davis followed a little while later with another goal for Tabor, assisted by
Liam Morgan. With an even score and 26 minutes left to play, TC had to put up a strong defensive fight to stay in the match.
Unfortunately for the Bluejays, McPherson was able to put themselves ahead with about 15 minutes left to go in the match, scoring their third goal of the evening. There were a couple more Tabor attempts at the goal, however, the Bluejays ran out of time as the clock expired and they came up short.
Conference play will continue this weekend, as Tabor looks forward to hosting the Falcons of Friends University at 7:30 p.m. Come out to Joel H. Wiens stadium to see the action and cheer them on.
