GREAT BEND, Kan. – Bluejay Softball ended their season on Thursday evening at the 2024 KCAC Softball Championship tournament, but not before making a memorable run. The Bluejays fell in their first-round matchup to the overall No. 1 seed and eventual tournament champion, Evangel, which moved Tabor to the elimination bracket.
The Bluejays faced the task of playing Kansas Wesleyan in their first elimination game, which might have seemed to be a tall task as the Coyotes had previously swept the Bluejays in the regular season meeting. Any doubt about Tabor being up to the task was erased in the Bluejays' 7-1 win over the Yotes to stave off elimination, thanks to RBIs from
Darcy Gillen,
Reyna Enriquez, and
Laura Savage.
Annabelle Buchanan earned the win in the circle to improve to 7-11 on the season.
Yet another familiar foe awaited the Bluejays in the elimination bracket after the overwhelming win over Kansas Wesleyan in Saint Mary. The Spires had also swept the Bluejays in the regular season series and proved to be another tall task. A three-run homer from
Jacqueline Garcia proved to be the fireworks the Bluejays needed, as they passed the Spires to keep their season alive, 9-5.
Ottawa awaited the Bluejays next, which might have been the most welcoming thing for Tabor, as the Bluejays hosted the Braves on their senior day on April 20
th and took one game from them. The Cinderella slipper still fit the Lady Bluejays as they cruised to a 6-1 victory to continue their tournament run.
The run would end however with a rematch with Evangel, with the Valor getting the shutout win, 6-0.
The Lady Bluejays end their season with a 24-25 overall record, an eight game improvement from a season ago, and a KCAC record of 13-13, and a 3-2 at the KCAC Softball Championship in their first appearance back in Great Bend since the 2022 season.
