McPHERSON, Kan. – Bluejay Men's Basketball made the short drive West on Highway 56 to play neighboring McPherson College on Saturday. While this game isn't necessarily a rivalry for the two teams, it is still a uniquely heated series, which was evident in the last matchup where the Bluejays won an 84-81 overtime thriller in Hillsboro back in January. Coming into tonight's game, the Bluejays endured a frustrating loss at home to Kansas Wesleyan University, while the Bulldogs were coming off a humbling defeat at the hands of No. 9 Southwestern College.
The Bluejays would be without Point Guard
Kalep Crane due to an injury in the early minutes of the game against Kansas Wesleyan, as well as
Jake Proctor who previously suffered a season-ending injury on the road at Avila.
The game started out even for the most part for both teams, however the Bulldogs would start to pull away at the 14:06 mark in the first half. The Bluejays would fall behind by as many as 17 points in the first half but would pull back to within 13 before heading into the locker room. Five Bluejays scored in the first half:
Kenyon Holcombe (8),
Jaiden Miller (7),
Jack Voth (6),
Kade Hemmert (2), and
Thatcher McClure (2).
The Bluejays would come back to within 10 points less than four minutes into the second half, but that would be the closest they would come the entire second half and the Bulldogs would exert their will and extend their lead to 26 points at one point during the half. Tabor would end up losing by 19, 77-58.
The game would mark the end of the Bluejays' season and the team would finish with an 11-17 overall record and an 8-14 record in the KCAC.
