HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Tabor College Bluejay men traveled up north to York, Nebraska to take on the Panthers of York University in the two teams' second meeting of the season. The two teams previously faced off on Nov. 18
th, where the Panthers clinched a three-point victory with a three at the one second mark. Both teams came into tonight's contest on three-game losing streaks and were both eager to snap them. The Bluejay men battled back but fell short against Evangel University on Saturday, while the Panthers suffered a 20-point blowout at McPherson College on Monday.
Both teams would trade buckets for the first 11 plus minutes, but York would start to pull away at the 8:25 mark and would build their lead up to 14 points at the 2:59 mark. The Bluejays would come back to within six at the halftime break, 43-37. At the end of the first half,
Jack Voth led the team in scoring with 13.
Thatcher McClure led the team on the glass with six boards.
The Tabor men worked to pull back into the game and would gain the lead at the 14:11 mark and after York tied things back up, Voth scored at the 12:51 mark to give the Bluejays the lead and they would hold onto it for the remainder of the game. The Bluejays would lead by as many as 10 points and would end up winning by four and snapping their three-game losing streak. Four Bluejays would finish in double figures: Voth (25),
Kalep Crane (14),
Kenyon Holcombe (13), and
Jaiden Miller (10). Voth had his second 20 plus point game in a row after scoring 22 in the loss to Evangel. Three other players would provide scoring for Tabor:
Jake Proctor (6),
Kade Hemmert (4), and McClure (2).
"Really tough and gritty win on the road. We knew the game would come down to getting stops and the last 25 minutes of the game we did that", said Head Coach
Matt Warren. "We did a poor job of making them uncomfortable early and to York's credit they made us pay. I was pleased with the way we moved the ball except for one segment in the first half. We knew if we moved the ball then we could score. We had to find a way to win tonight and we did so I'm proud of the team!"
The Bluejay men will be back on the road as they head to Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday to play their second game of the season against the Avila University Eagles. The Bluejays previously beat the Eagles in Hillsboro, the only other time the teams have played this season. The game will tip off at 4 pm and will be broadcast live on the
KCAC Network.
