SALINA, Kan. – Saturday's bout pitting Tabor against Kansas Wesleyan University came with heightened implications, as both teams looked to jockey for position at the top of the KCAC Bissell Division.
Both squads entered into Saturday with 2-0 records in Bissell Division play, adding to the excitement and intensity.
KWU struck first, taking an early one touchdown lead at the 10:27 mark in the 1
st quarter. Tabor answered with a touchdown of their own with 9:34 left to go in the 2
nd quarter, as
Willie Green connected with
Dante Smith on a 20-yard dime to knot the game at seven. The Coyotes scored again before the end of the first half, leaving the Bluejays trailing, 13-7.
The Bluejays found themselves down by two scores just five minutes into the 3
rd quarter as Luke Armstrong recorded his second touchdown of the afternoon for the Yotes. Green put the Bluejays back in the game, finding
Devin Jones in the endzone on a 26-yard pass play with around nine minutes left to play. The Coyotes scored just before the two-minute timeout, widening the gap for Tabor once again.
Kansas Wesleyan went on to win, 28-14. The Bluejays drop to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the Bissell Division with the loss. This coming Saturday marks yet another pivotal division challenge as the University of Saint Mary makes their way to Hillsboro for a 1pm kickoff.
