KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A rare Friday evening match took Bluejay Volleyball to Kansas City for a KCAC Volleyball match with Avila University.
The Lady Bluejays entered the match after a tough home loss to Bethany College on Wednesday night, while the Eagles came into the match after knocking off the Swedes in five sets last Friday.
Avila took a seven-point lead early in the first set, 10-3, before the Bluejays came roaring back, coming all the way back to within three points late in the set, 23-20. The Eagles pulled away and took the first set, 25-20.
Set Two saw the Bluejays shift the momentum as they went on several runs of their own, taking the set in dominant fashion, 25-16.
Tabor matched their performance from the previous set, winning it in equally dominant fashion and taking a 2-1 lead in the match, 25-14.
The Eagles took their turn in Set Four, dominating the set in the same way the Bluejays did with the previous two sets, 25-14. With Avila winning the fourth set, the Eagles forced the match to a fifth and final set.
The fifth and final set was most definitely the most exciting part of the match, as both squads traded point after point, eventually forcing the set into extras. The Lady Bluejays took an 18-17 lead with a chance to clinch the match, but Avila clawed their way back into the set, taking the set, 20-18, as well as the match, 20-18.
Josephine Fuamatu led the team in kills with 18, while
Juliana Alaniz (13), and
Katie Hofer (12) followed.
Mia Maly kept busy, dominating the assist category with 41 throughout the match, while
Macy Rowan led the team with 31 digs.
With the loss, the Lady Bluejays drop to 4-20 on the season and 2-7 in KCAC play. Tabor looks to bounce back in this coming week as the Bluejays head north to York, Neb. to take on the York University Panthers on Wednesday. The match is set to start at 7:00 and will be broadcast live on the
KCAC Network.
Live stats will also be available.
