The Bluejays got off to a slow start, finding themselves down 11-2 at the 17:11 mark, but would fight to get into the game and cut the deficit to five at the 9:37 mark, courtesy of a three from
Kenyon Holcombe. Kansas Wesleyan would go on another run and push the lead back out to ten, but the Bluejays would battle back and cut the lead back to five with a bucket from
Jake Proctor and a three from
Kade Hemmert. The Coyotes would go on to build a 16 point lead going into the halftime break.
The second half would see the Bluejay men fighting to get back into the game, cutting the lead down to ten points at the 5:00 mark with a made free throw from
Jaiden Miller. That would end up being the closest they would get, as the Coyotes would build their lead back up and end up winning by 15, 86-71.
Holcombe, Proctor, and
Jack Voth all finished in double figures with 12 points each, while Hemmert and Miller each had eight,
Thatcher McClure had seven, and
James Aboaba and
Kalep Crane each finished with six points. Hemmert and Proctor led the Bluejays on the glass, each pulling down six boards.
"Tough one but proud of how our team battled especially in the 2nd half but we have to start better. That's been an issue for us, so we are working tirelessly to figure out how to change that. We have to continue to believe that doing simple better and repeatedly will get the job done", said Head Men's Basketball Coach
Matt Warren.
Warren is optimistic about the remainder of the season, "I believe in this group. No one said trotting out one of the youngest teams in the country was going to be easy but building a program takes patience and perseverance. We have to continue to stack days and the results will take care of themselves."
