HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Tabor College Men's Basketball team returned back home this evening to host the Ottawa University Braves. The Bluejays were coming off a dominant win on the road at Bethany College, while the Braves were coming off a loss to Southwestern College on Saturday.
The Bluejays sprinted out to an incredibly fast start, leading by as many as 19 points in the first half. The Braves would work on trying to claw back into the game and would come back to within 11 points at the halftime break with Tabor holding onto a 41-30 lead.
Thatcher McClure led the Bluejays in scoring in the first half with 10 points, while
Jaiden Miller and
Jack Voth each had eight points.
Kenyon Holcombe led the team on the glass with nine rebounds.
The second half would prove to be much tighter than the first, but the Bluejays would continue to lead the rest of the way. Ottawa would come back within two points and would eventually lose by three, after missing two three point attempts at the end to tie it up. Voth would lead Tabor in scoring with 16 points, McClure had 15, Holcombe had 14, and Miller had 12 to round out the Bluejays in double figures.
Jake Proctor had seven,
James Aboaba and
Kalep Crane each had four, and
Kreeland Avery and
Kade Hemmert each had two points.
"Really proud of our team tonight", said Head Coach
Matt Warren. "This game had a little bit of everything in it. We obviously got off to a great start and really executed the plan. We knew Ottawa would keep fighting and make some runs because they are a well coached and really talented team. I thought we did a good job of keeping our composure and finding a way to win the game. We will go back and watch the film and see how we could have stopped a few of their runs or how else we can continue to get better. Now, we turn our attention to Saint Mary who is playing good basketball right now. We just want to focus on getting better and the results will take care of themselves."
The Bluejays will return to action on Saturday with a trip to Leavenworth to face the University of Saint Mary. The game will tip off at 7pm and will be broadcast live on the
KCAC Network.
