HILLSBORO, Kan. The Bluejays go into the week on fire, after a road win against Kansas Wesleyan University over the weekend. The ladies hoped to keep their eight-game conference winning streak alive against McPherson College. And doing just that they add another win, 78-33.
The starters for the Lady Jays included senior guard Ja'Neysha Hendricks, junior guard Teegan Werth and Kassidy Beam, senior guard/forward Madie McCoy, and senior forward Alyvia Owens.
Head Coach Shawn Reed said, "It was nice to be back at home and play in front of our fans. It had been over a month since we've played in our gym and our players were excited to be back at home."
"I was proud of our defensive effort throughout the night. I felt like we executed the game plan and we did a much better job of rebounding which is something we have been emphasizing. I thought Kass and Teegan rebounded well from the guard positions and Kloe and Jordyn did a great job down low," continued Reed.
After a fast-paced first quarter, the Bluejays got on a run taking the score to 19-6. In the second quarter, it looked like the Jays kept their momentum going and padded the score to 42-14.
"Offensively, we were pretty efficient although we missed some wide-open three-point looks and we shot horribly from the free-throw line in the first half. I also felt like we committed a few too many turnovers but we executed our plays and got some clean looks at the rim. I was very pleased with our efforts on the offensive glass. We had a lot of easy looks around the rim from offensive rebounding and it was good to see us be aggressive in that way," said Coach.
"Kass and Alyvia had very productive nights offensively. Both of them were hunting their shots within our offense and both played well. I thought both of our point guards played well and Ja'Neysha had some incredible assists in the game," stated Coach Reed.
The Bluejays came out with fire after the half. They allowed McPherson to only score two baskets the entire third quarter, 59-18. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that the Bluejays were going to add to their score to add their straight ninth KCAC win, 78-33.
"We are back on the road Saturday for a very important game versus Bethany. Bethany has a very experienced group and it is a tough place to play. We will need to play really well if we hope to secure a road victory in Lindsborg," exclaimed Coach Reed.
This win brings the Bluejay conference record to 9-0 and overall 12-3. They travel to Lindsborg, Kansas to play Bethany College on Saturday, Jan. 13th at 5 p.m.
Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
