Volleyball

BLUEJAYS DROP HOME OPENER

Box Score

Hillsboro, Kan.     The Bluejays hosted their first home game against Baker University. Going into the game the ladies had good momentum, wrapping up their weekend in Iowa going 2-2. The women played Baker in their season opener and successfully got the three-set sweep.

"The excitement for our first home games was great throughout the week, however it didn't translate to the court tonight. For whatever reason, we couldn't get anything going and never seemed to have any momentum. But we missed too many serves, made too many unforced errors, and gave away too many points. Volleyball is a game of mistakes but we have to score more points in order to balance out our mistakes," Head Coach Casey Quiggle said.

The first set started in a back-and-forth rally ending in the Wildcats' favor, 17-25. The next set consisted of a great fight from behind for the Bluejays but in the end went Baker's way, 23-25. The Bluejays ended their night by dropping the last set, 18-25. Their overall record comes to 4-5.

Key players throughout the match included senior Emma Rhodes with 19 assists, freshman Sydney Biggs and sophomore Fiona Sampaio each with 5 kills, and junior Naera Tschus with 15 digs.

"Baker is a good team and they have a lot of youth on their team. We may have beaten them in the first game of the season but we also played like we know we can and we executed on offense. Tonight was a different story. We have a little break here and can get after it in practice. We'll learn from tonight and make sure we come out better in next weekend's tournament," Quiggle said.

The Bluejays next matches will be on the road in St. Louis, Mo., and will play College of the Ozarks on September 15 at 1 p.m. That will start the tournament that the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy will host.

Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
