Hillsboro, Kan. Making their first regular season appearance following a couple of exhibition matches, the Tabor Bluejays Men's Soccer fell to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers, 4-1, on Tuesday night.
"We played well in stretches against a good opponent and recovered well from a disastrous start, but were unable to be consistent over the full 90 minutes," Head Coach Grant Bruba cher said.
The Drovers began the match with a bang, scoring in the opening minutes of action. The goal was scored by Matija Malenovic and assisted by Justin Croke. USOA grew their lead in the second half with a trio of goals.
"The second goal really swung the game. We started the second half well and created some good chances, but we switched off on the free kick and gave up an easy goal. It was a big mistake and we never fully recovered from it," said Brubacher.
As a team, the Bluejays had more scoring opportunities, outshooting the Drovers 9-8. However, USAO had more shots on goal, 5-7, and converted on four of those attempts. Junior, Ander Bengoetxea led the team with three shot attempts, including one on goal.
Tabor (0-1) will be back in action on Saturday, September 2nd against the Concordia Bulldogs (1-0) at Bulldog Stadium in Seward, Nebraska. The match will start at 8:00 p.m., approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the women's match.
