HILLSBORO, Kan. After a few tough losses, the Bluejays hoped to bring home a win for senior day against the Friends University Falcons. Playing just three sets, the ladies pulled out a win.
Head Coach Casey Quiggle had this to say about the ladies' performance, "Senior Day is always a time when you know the Seniors are going to bring a lot of energy to the game. With 5 Seniors and their friends and families' support, I was confident we'd come out and perform well. While there was some back and forth early on, we were in control in each set and it made it easy for us to play freely and enjoy finishing the last regular season game in strong fashion."
In the first set, the Bluejays came out looking unstoppable. With some great defensive plays, they won, 25-15. Set two consisted of a lot of teamwork and communication for the Bluejays. They took advantage of the errors made by the Falcons winning, 25-13. In set three, it wasn't much different, there were some back-and-forth errors made but the Bluejays never lost their momentum winning, 25-17.
Some key Bluejays included sophomore Fiona Sampaio with 16 kills and senior Katie Lowery with 10 kills. Seniors Lauren Tolbert and Katie Lowery, both had 2 blocks. Senior Emma Rhodes with 38 assists and senior Kenna Brandes with 15 digs.
"It's nice to have some momentum heading into Tuesday. To accomplish one of our goals of finishing in the top 8 to host a first-round tournament game says a lot for this team who was picked to finish 13th in the Conference. I've said it throughout the season; I'm proud of this team and how they've stuck together", said Coach Quiggle.
The Bluejays KCAC record ends up being 6-7 and overall 14-12. The ladies' next game will be at home on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. for the first round of the KCAC tournament against the Bethany Swedes.
Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
