Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Nathan Howard

BLUEJAY MEN EARN GRITTY OVERTIME WIN

CRETE, Neb.  The Bluejay Men's Basketball team traveled to Crete, Nebraska on Wednesday to face the Tigers of Doane University in each team's second game of the season and the Bluejays' second road contest of the season.

Tabor College Head Men's Basketball Coach Matt Warren started the same five from last week, Jack Voth, Jake Proctor, Kalep Crane, Thatcher McClure, and Kenyon Holcombe. Jack Voth was fouled and made a free throw early in the game to put Tabor on the board first. The early 1-0 lead turned out to be the only Bluejay lead of the first half, as the Tigers lead by as many as 14 points. A technical foul on the Tigers at the 5:55 mark followed by a bucket from Jaiden Miller helped propel the Bluejays into a 11-5 run to close out the first half. The Bluejays had eight points off turnovers in the first half and the score at the half was 30-26, in favor of Doane.

The second half was more even, with both teams trading buckets resulting in 11 total lead changes. Tabor took a four point lead at the 4:00 mark, but the Tigers would tie the game. Thatcher McClure had a three-pointer that would've sealed the game for the Bluejays, but it didn't quite go and time expired with the game tied at 62.

Both teams traded buckets at the beginning of overtime, but the Bluejays gained the lead for good on a made free throw from Jack Voth with 53 seconds remaining. The Bluejays would go on to win in overtime, 71-69. Jack Voth led Tabor with 24 points, while Thatcher McClure had 11.

Coach Warren had this to say about his team's performance, "What a really gritty win for our program! I couldn't  be more proud of their fight and resiliency. Two true road wins to open the season is something we will never take lightly in our program. Our staple will always be our defense and we held a really good offensive team to .719 points per possession and 38.6% from the field on the road. We have to clean a lot of things up and continue to get better but you always love to do that after a win! Now, we go back to work and we can't wait to play in front of Bluejay Nation next weekend in the Tabor Classic!"

The Bluejay men will return home to host the Tabor College Classic and start out by facing Huston-Tillotson University on Friday, November 10th at 8:00 pm.

Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
