HILLSBORO, Kan. A good road win for the Bluejays against Evangel University puts the momentum in their favor.
The starting five for the Jays included senior guard Ja'Neysha Hendricks, junior guards Teegan Werth and Kassidy Beam, senior guard/forward Madie McCoy, and senior forward Alyvia Owens.
Head Coach Shawn Reed said, "We were really pleased with our offensive effort throughout the entire game. As a team, we moved the ball and found cutters for easy baskets. Whenever you post 24 assists in a game that's a good sign that your team is looking for their teammates and making the extra pass."
"We also did a good job of finding a balance between inside and outside baskets. Our posts got doubled multiple times and they did a tremendous job of finding open cutters or guards on the perimeter for open three-point baskets. Our guards also did a solid job of making strong passes to our post players that lead to easy points at the rim", continued Reed.
The ladies came out hot for quarters one and two. Alyvia Owens got the Bluejays going with a layup early in the game. After a couple of Lillie Veer and Madie McCoy threes, the Bluejays were up 44-24 at the half.
"In the second half, our defensive effort was more consistent and we held York to 36% shooting from the field in the third and fourth quarters", said Reed.
Kloe Bowin and Jordyn Lowrie had some big shots for the Bluejays in the third quarter. The ladies had great ball movement and found open shots. Miyah McGee, Brooke Berlin, and Katelin Long all got in on the action. The Bluejays finished the game 88-47.
Coach Reed said, "Defensively, we started the game with fantastic effort and execution but that waned in the second quarter. We struggled in that quarter with transition defense and we didn't execute our defensive principles and York took advantage scoring 18 points."
"We got tremendous production from our bench during the game and our bench players outscored York 55-26. Individually, Alyvia Owens, Lillie Veer, and Jordyn Lowrie all three scored double-digit and were all very efficient. We had several other players shoot well from the field and it was really a team effort that led to our team shooting 55% from the field and 43% from the three-point line. Ja'Neysha Hendricks, Madie McCoy, and Jordyn Lowrie all three garnered three steals. Kloe Bowin also posted two blocks in the game to lead us in that category", Coach Reed included.
This win brings the ladies KCAC record to 2-0 and overall 5-2. The Bluejays next game is in Hays, Kansas on Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. against NCAA Division II Fort Hays State University.
Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
