TABOR WOMEN GET WIN IN FINAL MATCH OF INVITE

Hastings, Neb.    Head Tennis Coach Brian Waddell and his Men and Women tennis teams traveled to Hastings, Nebraska for a long weekend of tennis on Friday and Saturday. The one thing they did not count on was rain, 40 mile-per-hour winds and 32 degrees. They did complete everything with the help of three indoor courts and beautiful but cold temperatures outside on Saturday.

First up was the Tabor women versus Doane University on Friday. Tabor lost the doubles point 2-1 and the singles 3-2. Sophomore Fiorella Villa highlighted the match for Tabor as she was able to grind out a straight set win that included a thrilling opening set tiebreak.

Up next, the Bluejays faced host Hastings College. Tabor lost the match 5-1 to the Broncos, but Waddell was very pleased with their lone win, which came from junior Tara Stewart at #1 Singles. Stewart won her match in straight sets, dropping only one game. Waddell said that was the best match she has played since he came to Tabor last year.

"What a very unusual day of tennis with the rain, winds, cold weather, playing inside then outside and then inside and finally outside," said Waddell after day one. "But (I am) very proud of both my teams with their efforts, patience, and team togetherness!"

To start off day two on Saturday, Tabor faced the College of St. Mary's, falling 5-1. "This ladies team was the best one we played all weekend but my girls made a good effort and everyone learned a lot from it," said coach Waddell.

In their final match of the tournament, Tabor defeated Baker University 5-1. The Bluejays took both doubles matches and won their four singles matches in straight sets. According to Waddell, freshman Katherine Classen played her best match of the year as she breezed through her match without dropping a game.

"It was great playing dual matches after three weekends of tournament play," Waddell said. "There's a lot of team bonding with dual play and this was even better since both our teams played while the other got to watch and support them."

Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
