BLUEJAYS TOPPLE THE UNBEATEN WARRIORS

Box Score

Hillsboro, Kan.   The Tabor Bluejays came into the game against Sterling College after earning their first shutout of the season against Evangel on Homecoming weekend. An all-round valiant effort allowed for the Bluejays to end Sterling's unbeaten conference run by coming away with the 3-2 victory.

The first half brought good offensive spells from both teams with the better of the chances coming to the Bluejays. The men were able to register nine shots on the Sterling goal in the first half. The deadlock was finally broken when junior forward Ander Bengoetxea smashed the ball into the top corner in the 23rd minute to make the score 1-0. Sterling would respond quickly with a goal of their own in the 25th minute after striker Matt Dale found himself on the edge of the area and dispatched it to make the score 1-1 at the half.

The second half was a much more intense affair for the Bluejays as the Warriors started to ramp up the pressure. However, Bengoetxea would find himself on the score sheet again in the 58th minute of the match. This was followed by Sam Butler, who scored in the 70th minute after an unselfish Owen Bellamy cross, which was Butler's first goal of the season. Sterling would respond to make the score 3-2 after a controversial call allowed for Sterling to get back into the game. The Bluejay defense would hold however, and they would see out the game for the 3-2 victory.

"It was a great win against (the) 2nd in the conference. This win will be important for us going forward," Head Coach Grant Brubacher said.

The Bluejays will next play on the road on Saturday, Oct. 7th to face the Braves of Ottawa University, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.

Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kan. The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
