Box Score York, Neb. The Bluejays traveled to York looking to secure a playoff spot with a victory over the Panthers. Two late goals propelled the Bluejays to a 2-0 win and to a spot in the KCAC postseason tournament.
The first half was a cagey affair with both teams looking to break the other down. A lot of big tackles and intense play set the tone for the half. Despite this the Bluejays had the best of the offense with four shots on goal in the half, compared to one from the Panthers. The game would remain scoreless going into the break making the halftime score 0-0.
The second half brought much more of an offensive threat from the Bluejays as they looked to win the game. The Bluejays registered six shots on the York goal in the second half. Later on in the half an Ander Bengoetxea ball found the feet of substitute Ian Freundt who executed a beautiful outside of the boot finish to make the score 1-0 in the 85th minute.
The Bluejays then looked to go into defensive mode to see out the game, however in the 89th minute Bengoetxea played a cross which found the feet of Owen Bellamy who slammed in the game winner for his second goal in two games in the 89th minute. This put the game beyond any doubt making the final score 2-0 to the Bluejays.
"It was great to get this win in hard conditions. We left it late but got the job done," said Head Coach Grant Brubacher after the game.
The Bluejays will next play at home on Saturday, Oct. 28 against the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Kickoff will be set for 7:30 p.m.
Tabor College is a Christ-centered institution located in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Bluejays are members of the NAIA and compete in the KCAC.
