Length of time at Tabor: Since 1999
Athletic background
I began my collegiate career as a player at Bethel College. We won two conference championships and I was awarded KCAC player of the year in 1994. Tabor Volleyball has been consecutive KCAC
Champions for six years: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006. We've
advanced to the regional tournament in ?03, ?05, ?06 and I was awarded
Coach of the Year in ?01, ?02, ?03.
Of the 70 women I have had the privilege to work with, 19 have continued on to coach volleyball at different levels.
Academic background
I have my teaching degree and taught in the public school system for 5 years.
Family
I am married with 4 children. I also grew up and now live in Hillsboro, KS.
Coaching style
My
goal as a coach is to create a playing field where all athletes can
grow and play at the top of their ability. Our everyday team atmosphere
is a desire to follow Philippians 4:8: Finally brothers and sisters,
whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is
pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is
excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. I believe that if
we follow those principles and are focused on excellence, the winning
becomes the reward for a job well done.
What is special about athletics at Tabor?
I
enjoy the relationships that I am allowed to form with my players on
and off the court. I believe the athletes are surrounded by great
people which results in students leaving Tabor with a tremendous
support system behind them.
How do you integrate faith into your coaching?
To
me, personal growth is the one thing I desire the most for my players.
Athletics has a way of empowering women to have a confident voice. As
they become more confident, their desire to grow becomes apparent. We
provide many opportunities for the players to grow through devotions,
prayer partners, and bible studies.
