The Tabor College men's and women's tennis teams took to their home courts Wednesday afternoon against Kansas Wesleyan University in a conference showdown. Despite showing fight and picking up key wins, both teams came up short, with the men falling in a narrow 4-3 decision and the women dropping their match 7-0.
Men's Recap: Competitive to the End
The Tabor men (3-10 overall, 2-7 KCAC) showed grit in a tightly contested match against the Coyotes, who entered the day 6-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Tabor got off to a strong start in doubles, securing the point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots:
-
Jake Goertzen and Ko Osuga edged out their opponents in a tiebreak at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (7-2).
-
Alexandre Boljesic and John Ferley picked up a 6-3 win on court three.
In singles play, Tabor's top performances came from:
-
Ethan Kutz, who dominated at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
-
Boljesic, continuing his standout day with a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 4.
However, Kansas Wesleyan clawed back with wins in four singles matches to seal the overall victory. Despite a tight three-set battle, Peter Jost came up just short in a 4-6, 6-2, 5-7 loss at No. 5.
Women's Recap: Coyotes Too Strong
The Tabor women (0-13 overall, 0-9 KCAC) were unable to slow down a surging Kansas Wesleyan team (7-7 overall, 5-4 KCAC), who swept the Bluejays across all courts.
KWU claimed the doubles point decisively and then carried that momentum into singles, winning all six matchups in straight sets. While Sheridan Bussard, Cassidy Boyer, and Fiorella Villa put up a fight at the lower singles spots, the Coyotes proved too much across the board.
From the Coach
"I was very proud of the way both teams played today," said Head Coach [Name]. "The women continue to improve every time out — it just doesn't always show in the score. The men lost a heartbreaker, but we went toe to toe with a very good KWU team and we have nothing to hang our heads about. Now we will regroup and get ready for another home match on Saturday against Evangel!"
Next Up
